Documenting life in Parry Sound: then and now

A University of Toronto professor is fishing for stories. West Parry Sound and District Museum Curator Nadine Hammond says while University of Toronto Linguistics Professor Sali Tagliamonte was digitizing John MacFie’s taped interviews from the 1980’s with Parry Sound locals, she was inspired to interview people living in or who frequently visit the Parry Sound district today.

Hammond says Parry Sound is a unique environment and people are full of stories about the area.

The project is called “Fishing For Stories: From Students To Seniors.” Hammond says anyone 16 and older can share their stories. She says interviews can be scheduled at the museum, or students from Parry Sound High School who have teamed up with Professor Tagliamonte will be around town conducting interviews and doing fun surveys for the project.

Hammond adds the interviews will be entered into museum archives to be used in future exhibits. Interviews will take place between May 9th and May 18th.
