Parry Sound looking for more feedback as it works to draft new official plan

The Town of Parry Sound is continuing to work through the process of developing and drafting a new official plan.

A second discussion paper, highlighting the work done to date, was released to the public May 8. The document, which can be viewed at www.parrysound.ca, includes a new long-term vision and updated housing strategy.

A lack of housing options and supply, as well as affordability, were identified as major concerns through the first phase of engagement efforts.  In response, officials have enhanced housing policies in the updated official plan to promote greater diversity of housing types and options.

A new long-term vision breaks the town into four sections, a living area, economic mixed-use area, central commerce area and a harbour area.

“An official plan is a future-looking document to help guide decision-making over the next 20 years. The idea here is to introduce a community structure, which would include both a map and set of policies,” said Kathy Suggitt, a planner from MHBC Planning.

The town will be accepting feedback on the second discussion paper until May 29.

A first draft of the updated official plan is anticipated to be released in early summer.

“We are certainly welcoming all comments,” said Jamie Robinson, planner from MHBC Planning. “This project is in its infancy. This is a first cut.”
