Health Unit promoting Emergency Preparedness Week

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is promoting effective emergency preparedness this week.

Officials encourage you to develop a plan with family members and loved ones in case of an emergency – like a tornado, flood or fire.

On top of having working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home, they say you should figure out safe rooms to use for shelter, locate all gas, water and electrical shutoffs and have a working fire extinguisher, among other things.

“Effective emergency preparedness ensures people are ready to cope with and recover from threats to public health or disruptions to public health programs and services,” stated a release from the health unit. “Basic emergency preparedness starts with each individual and it is recommended that every household has an emergency management plan.”
