Labour market study finds a disconnect between employer expectations and education

The Labour Market Group for the Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts says we might need to improve how we prepare students for jobs.  That’s the assessment from the agency after a study found 62 percent of employers say the availability of qualified workers is fair to poor.  The labour group says its latest study suggests that workplace needs are not aligned with what schools are teaching young people.  The results also show employers want people who are dependable, have a good work ethic and have customer service skills.  The labour group says these skills are not taught in school so the question becomes where do young people learn about them.
