French River man dies after not wearing a life jacket

Police complete investigation of a drowning in French River.

Noelville OPP was called to a possible drowning on Lower Sturgeon Lake on Saturday afternoon.

An investigation found that two men were fishing in a small boat when it capsized, sending them both in the water.  When officers arrived, 69 years old Jocelyn Michaud of French River was found on the shore without any vital signs and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say Michaud was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident and remind everyone heading out on the waterways to reflect upon the numerous tragic and preventable deaths and injuries that occur on Ontario’s lakes and rivers, due to careless behaviour, every year.
