A Parry Sound landmark will once again be a topic of discussion at the council table.
A motion supporting the retention, repair and maintenance of the Waubuno Road bridge is on the Oct. 20 council agenda.
Backed by Coun. Doug McCann, the motion calls for staff to prepare a bylaw confirming the protection and retention of the Waubuno Road wooden bridge, and that it be incorporated into the Town’s Official Plan.
“More than 300 written submissions have been received by Council in favour of retaining the existing bridge,” states the motion.
“The people supporting the retention of the bridge wish to have retain determinedness and conclusion in this matter which has been wavering for an undesirable length of time.”
A 2024 inspection of the structure revealed several deficiencies that need to be addressed to extend the bridge’s life. These repairs were estimated to cost around $350,000.
In September of 2024, council unanimously voted against the removal of the bridge.
The motions states that an engineering report commissioned by the Town, dated Jan. 13, 2025, outlined the required repairs for the bridge, which can be fully funded through a $350,000 provincial grant.
Council meets at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20 and will discuss the motion further.
