Parry Sound to conduct smoke testing of sanitary sewers

Don’t panic if you start to see smoke coming out of the sewer grates in town.

Parry Sound, together with Tatham Engineering, will be conducting sanitary sewer smoke testing in the catchment area around Sanitary Pumping Station No. 11. This includes a section of Bowes Street from Oastler Park Drive to Albert Street and the surrounding area.

According to officials, testing will take place during daylight hours Sept. 14 to 18.

Officials said smoke testing helps identify locations where improvements to the sanitary system may be required. During testing, non-toxic smoke may be seen coming from manholes, roof vents, catch basins, yard drains and other sewer connections.
