Seguin Township’s Official Plan update proposes to increase waterfront setback

The Township of Seguin’s new Official Plan proposes updates to a number of policies, including those that oversee shoreline development.

A report provided to council on May 19, outlined a variety of revisions to the township’s Official Plan, including changes to policies on guest cabins and accessory buildings, campgrounds, trailer parks, and mobile homes, and increasing the setback for new shoreline development to 30 metres.

“If you are creating a new lot the setback would be 30 metres, whereas if it is an existing situation its 20 metres. It is 20 metres across the board in the Official Plan currently….but to address more recent standards and allow better opportunities for vegetation preservation in the front yard, the recommendation has been to go to 30 metres, which aligns with the Ministry of Natural Resources recommendations for protections of water bodies,” said Jamie Robinson of MHBC planning.

Staff will consider comments from the public provided during a public meeting on May 19, and report back to council at a later date.
