Seguin lowers flags in recognition of National Day of Mourning

Seguin Township has lowered its flags to half-staff today in recognition of the National Day of Mourning.

Observed annually on April 28, the day is dedicated to remembering workers who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or developed illnesses as a result of their work. Communities across Canada take part, reflecting on the importance of workplace health and safety.

According to the Association of Workers Compensation Board of Canada, in 2023 there were 1,057 workplace fatalities recorded in Canada. Among those deaths, 29 were young workers aged 15 to 24.

“This day serves as a solemn call to remember those who have lost their lives or been injured at work,” said Township CAO Jason Inwood. “As an organization, we are reminded of the importance of maintaining the highest health and safety standards for all who work at the Township.”
