UPDATE: Flood watch continues to be in effect for Parry Sound-Muskoka

The Ministry of Natural Resources has extended the flood warning for the Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound District until May 6.

Forecasts suggest that the District of Parry Sound, the District of Muskoka, and the County of Haliburton could receive up to 30 mm of rainfall in the next seven days.

Ministry officials said the current areas of greatest concern include Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau and Lake Joseph, the Moon River, including the Bala Reach Control Dam, the Gull River watershed, including the community of Minden, and the French River and Pickerel River.

Officials said several areas are experiencing elevated water levels and flows.

According to Ministry officials, residents and visitors should anticipate lake and river water levels to continue to stabilize in some areas over the next week, with decreases possible in some locations.

Lower-lying portions of known flood-prone areas may be impacted to varying degrees as runoff enters local watercourses.

Residents are urged to exercise caution near fast-moving rivers and streams and maintain close supervision of children and pets.

Ministry officials are closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as appropriate.
