WPSHC now offering CT scans on weekends

The West Parry Sound Health Centre has expanded the hours of operation for its CT scanner.

Hospital officials say, under the new hours which came into effect on Feb. 14, outpatients will be able to book CT scans on the weekend between 1 and 6 p.m.

However, during the initial rollout, only five patients will be booked for scans per day. As the service expands, delivery may be adjusted to best meet the needs of the patients and staff.

According to hospital officials, the changes will reduce barriers to care for patients who work during the week, face travel challenges or have caregiving responsibilities. Weekend access also eases pressures on weekday schedules, supporting timely diagnostic services.

“Timely diagnostic imaging plays a critical role in improving health outcomes,” states a release about the expansion. “Earlier identification of medical conditions allows for faster treatment and follow-up care, while reducing the need for urgent imaging and limiting disease progression. Studies show that timely imaging can also improve patient experience and continuity of care.”
