Moose FM radiothon to raise funds for West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation on Aug. 28

Moose FM has once again partnered with the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation for an annual radiothon.

We will be on-air on 103.3 Moose FM from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 28 raising awareness and funds for the local hospital foundation.

According to Dr. Heather Smith, due to our location, its extremely important the hospital is able to provide high quality care locally.

“It is over 130 kilometres to the nearest tertiary centre. We need to be able to provide high quality care locally, to prevent having to ship people out. Patients having to travel to other centres for their care creates a lot of stress, it is expensive, there are a lot of logistics that need to go into it. If we can keep care local, that just makes everything easier.”

This year all funds raised will once again go towards essential floor-to-celling upgrades in the hospital’s surgical suites. The second phase of the $2.5 million project will fund new and upgraded equipment required for four surgical services: ophthalmology, urology, orthopedics and a new breast cancer procedure.

The 12-hour fundraiser will include special programming, interviews with hospital staff and more.

To donate call 705-746-2163, drop by 60 James Street in person, or visit the Foundation’s website.
