Community rallies around three families displaced by apartment fire

The Parry Sound community has been rallying together to help three families displaced by a fire at a Railway Avenue apartment building last week.

Officials say the fire started in an upstairs bedroom, and quickly spread. The apartment where the fire started, and the two units below suffered heavy smoke and water damage. Officials say everything in the units was either destroyed or damaged by smoke and water – and the apartments are unlivable.

Since the fire, the community has rallied. The Salvation Army arranged emergency lodging, Sobeys Parry Sound stepped up with meals, and the Rotary Club of West Parry Sound has launched an online fundraiser to help provide essentials, support and help the families rebuild.

Parry Sound’s Helping Hands Facebook page has also been working to arrange donations of clothing, furniture and toys to help these families get back on their feet.
