Local search and rescue group looking to for members

Bimaajitoon Search and Rescue is in need of volunteers.

Search Coordinator Jordan Pennington says the local organization, which is based out of Carling and serves the entire Parry Sound District, helps the OPP when called upon.

“We will be given tasks depending on what the OPP requires. They can send us in certain spots to do a grid search, walk a trail, check a shoreline, canvas houses, pretty much assist them in any way they need.”

The group is also a part of the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association and can be called upon to provide mutual aid across the province.

An information night is being hosted at the Parry Sound Fire Hall on April 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Pennington says the organization is looking for volunteers already certified in first aid. Basic Search and Rescue training will be provided by a team of local instructors in early May.

Interested candidates can email [email protected] for more information.
