Two local First Nations getting nearly $100,000 for emergency preparedness

Two First Nations in our region are getting nearly $100,000 from the province to better respond to emergencies.

Moose Deer Point First Nation is getting $50,000 to upgrade communications for emergency responders, as well as purchase household emergency preparedness kits, supplied with items such as first aid, food, water, blankets, and radios.

Meanwhile, $49,500 goes to Magnetawan First Nation to equip homes with generators, propane heaters, and rechargeable lights.

The money is part of the $5-million Community Emergency Preparedness Grant set aside for small Ontario communities this year. Officials add $110-million has been earmarked to help emergency preparedness over the next three years.
