The West Parry Sound Economic Development Collaborative (WPSEDC) released a top hits summary of the year’s achievements despite the ongoing impacts of COVID-19.

In 2021, West Parry Sound businesses successfully obtained over $2.4 million in grant funding from the federal and provincial governments.

Among the highlights was Connor Industries getting nearly $1 million to construct two new buildings and purchase equipment.

Also on the list were Crofters Food receiving $1 million to construct a new facility and expand their production and Wave Fibre Mill’s $200,000 boost to establish a fibre processing mill at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport.

The region also announced the approval of $23.3 million in federal and provincial grant funding for the West Parry Sound Recreation and Culture Centre. The year’s investments are set to create at least 40 new jobs once complete.

Other investments include the construction of a new regional school in Parry Sound, set to begin in March with a school opening date in September 2023.

In addition, WPSEDC says the plan to construct a new 5000 ft. runway with improved alignment at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport and open several new lots in the Business Park is proceeding on schedule.

Construction is also nearing completion on the new Best Western Hotel on Pine Drive in Parry Sound which once completed will add 93 rooms to the area’s accommodation offerings.

The WPSEDC says it will continue to support business retention and expansion and attract further investments this year as well.
