COVID-19 means changes to traditional Remembrance Day services

LEST WE FORGET

In our region, the Parry Sound Legion will not be holding a service.

The town is lowering flags at the Municipal Office, the Bobby Orr Community Centre and the Algonquin Regiment monument to half-mast. The Old Firehall siren will sound at 11:00 A.M. to mark two minutes of silence followed by a second siren to end it. Mayor Jamie McGarvey has released a Remembrance Day video message that can be found on our Facebook page.

In addition, the Moose has posted a video on both our web page and Facebook page that if played at 10:53 a.m. will conclude with a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m.

In Carling there will be a Remembrance Day Service this morning at the Carling Township Cemetery. The service will begin at 10:45 a.m. The public is asking that those who are attending to wear a face covering and social distance. Unlike other years there will not be a lunch after the service. Parking and standing room will be limited.

At the Dunchurch Legion they will be laying official wreaths at the Branch. The ceremony will NOT be open to the public. The Dunchurch Legion has invited representatives of some of the local municipalities like Magnetawan, Whitestone and McKellar to lay a wreath in honour of the veterans from their respective municipality.
