Official charges laid during the manhunt

PARRY SOUND, ON-The West Parry Sound OPP has officially laid charges against one of the suspects apprehended during a manhunt.

On June 1st, around 5:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 400 that had previously failed to stop for police. 

To catch the suspects in the fleeing car, police laid a spike belt to stop the vehicle on Highway 400 near Highway 559, where both suspects then fled.

One of the suspects was arrested immediately, and during the search of the vehicle, police found and seized a firearm and a number of drugs that were believed to be Cocaine, Fentanyl, Heroin, and Cannabis, valued at approximately $162,000.

The 24-year-old from Brampton was charged with several offences, including possession of weapons, trafficking drugs and fleeing from the police.

He is set to appear for a bail hearing in Parry Sound on June 4th. 

Police confirmed that they are no longer searching the immediate area, but the investigation into the whereabouts of the second suspect who fled into a wooded area is continuing.
