Watershed condition statement issued for Georgian Bay shoreline

PARRY SOUND, ON-The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), has issued a watershed conditions statement for the Georgian Bay shoreline.

The statement urges residents to be extra careful near the water and keep a close eye on the shoreline conditions. This warning comes in expectation of water levels remaining high throughout the coming weeks and months. According to the MNRF, any storm surge or high waves that come from high wind and storm events can worsen shoreline conditions.

This type of statement is issued when melting ice, or other factors could be dangerous for boaters, anglers and swimmers, but only when flooding is not expected.

If you own a sump pump, it is advised that you take some time to ensure that it is working as it can help protect any property in flood-prone or vulnerable areas.

The MNRF is advising residents that banks and shorelines near bodies of water may be slippery and unstable, and the temperatures remain very cold. People should exercise caution while around these areas and maintain close supervision of children and pets.
