NNDSB schools to close during strike

PARRY SOUND, ON-Schools in Parry Sound with the Near North District School board (NNDSB) will be closed on Tuesday with another rotating one day strike.

Teachers from the schools under the board will strike on January 21st as the OSSTF and ETFO have been launching work actions across the province and if a contract agreement is not reached by Tuesday.

In an interview with the OSSTF District 4 President Glen Hodgson, he said that he did not want to come to this but felt like there was no other option to let the government know how serious they are.

The NNDSB said that they understand that this is a difficult time but ask parents to make alternate arrangements for their children next Tuesday.

Hodgson said that he does recognize the stress that this put on parents but the union stands firm in their beliefs, “more so than ever before.”

“We have been fighting for education since day one and we continue to do so,” said Hodgson.

Hodgson said that the union itself is democratic and they conducted a survey to see how people would feel about striking, he said that the results were about 97 percent in favour of taking strike action if necessary, “and now we need to show the government we want the best for the students.”

Hodgson said that if parents want to get involved, then they welcome the community to voice their concerns and opinions.
