Weather Warnings for some areas in our region
A couple of warnings have been issued for our region. Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for Bayfield Inlet-Dunchurch advising that rainfall, combined with melting snow, is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. After a brief period of snow or patchy freezing rain precipitation will change over to plain rain. The rain will taper off to scattered showers and flurries by this evening. Total rainfall amounts of 20 to 30 mm are expected by this evening.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
The other warning is for the Burk’s Falls – South River area where Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning. A band of freezing rain is expected to develop across the region early this morning and may persist into the afternoon before changing over to rain or wet snow. Hazardous winter travelling conditions are expected. Motorists should allow for extra time to reach their destination.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
