Flood warning extended in portions of Parry Sound another week

The flood warning for portions of the Sudbury and Parry Sound Districts has been extended by a week.

Residents in the West Arm area of Lake Nipissing, as well as the French and Lower Pickerel River Watersheds (Municipality of St. Charles, Municipality of French River and the Municipality of Killarney, McConkey Township, Blair Township, Mowat Township and Henvey Inlet First Nation) have been advised that the Flood Warning has been extended in both Districts until Friday, May 24th.

The extension is due in part to a forecast calling for between 15 and 20 mm of rain this weekend and a total accumulation in the area over the next five days in excess of 25mm.

The water levels and flows in the French River are still very high, with the forecasted precipitation and high inflows, there is still the potential to observe additional increases in the coming days.

Residents living on or near rivers or in low-lying areas should monitor conditions closely and prepare to act quickly to any changes in water levels.

The provincial government defines Flood Warning as the condition when flooding is imminent or occurring within specific watercourses and municipalities.
