OPP lays 70 charges during Easter campaign

The results are in from the West Parry Sound OPP’s Easter seat belt campaign.

Officers were out and about over the long weekend cracking down on people who weren’t properly buckled up.

The OPP says during the campaign a total of 70 charges were laid, but only one was for a seat belt violation. The rest included 52 speeding tickets, four insurance violations and 12 other traffic-related violations.

Across Ontario, the OPP laid more than 1,000 charges against unbuckled drivers and passengers. That’s down from last year’s campaign, which saw more than 1,500 charges laid.

The West Parry Sound OPP says there were no serious injuries or fatalities on local highways, waterways or trails over the Easter weekend.
