Adopting an artifact helps preserve local history

Adopt-an-Artefact is a sponsorship program that encourages individuals to assist in the preservation of the Museum on Tower Hill’s collection.

The Museum on Tower Hill has over 6,000 artifacts and 5,000 historic images, which have donated by individuals in the community the museum ensures the preservation and longevity of these items.

By ‘adopting’ one of the artifacts housed within the museum’s collections room, the museum is supported to protect and interpret the district’s heritage while helping to fund future exhibitions and educational programming.

“You’re not actually taking the artifact home with, you, you’re donating a bit of money to help preserve it,” said Amy Sultana, Collections Supervisor at the museum.

There are various benefits to adopting an artifact, such as including a personal story, a certificate and photo of the artefact, an invitation to a year-long exhibit and most adoptions are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

Sultana says that there are a number of artifacts still up for adoption.
