CMHA makes mental health a priority at every age

Parry Sound CMHA has a range of programs to assist the community through any stage of life and offers free education to those in need.

Every Wednesday, the CMHA has a walk-in clinic that is open to the public and offers crisis support related to addiction or for anyone struggling with mental or emotional illness.

Kim Laurie, Area Manager for Parry Sound-Muskoka CMHA says that anyone who is curious about any type of mental health illness or have inquiries about services is welcome to inquire.  CMHA offers a range of supports including group or individual therapy for any stage of life.

Laurie says older adults in our society are now considered those over 55-years-old and seniors mental health services are also available.

“If people are aware of our services here, they can start setting up a counsellor when an individual is going through major transitions in life and discuss those emotions and all the different components that come along with changes in life. Consent is an important component of privacy and confidentiality. Most times we would have a consent form so we can work with family physicians, in some cases,” Laurie said.

Self-referral programs available through CMHA are Bounce Back to help with mild or moderate depression and anxiety or Big White Wall which offers online support groups and therapy. All programs are confidential and offer support to the general public.

All of CMHA’s programs are covered by OHIP and residents can get one-on-one support in town at 26 James Street.
