Local athlete brings home silver in slopestyle

Megan Oldham is home after competing in the Freeski World Cup in Italy.

The Parry Sound High School student began downhill skiing around six-years-oldĀ during annual ski trips out west with family. Now she is competing internationally and won a silver medal inĀ Seiser Alm, Italy.

“My experience in Italy was absolutely crazy. I wasn’tĀ really expecting to compete the way I did. It was really awesome to be out there with all the girls and just have a really good time,” Oldham said.

“My team is super supportive and it was really awesome to be with together and share a win together. Everyone was really hyped for each other,” she added.

Oldham says she was able to do some exploring in France and looked at the course in Italy where she described the rail sections and jumps as”sick.”

She mentioned that she may decide to go to the Olympics one day but, her main focus is getting through her last year of high school and focusing on skiing at the same time.

“Hopefully next year I’ll be able to take a break from school and just focus on skiing and see where it goes,” she said.

The 17-year-old returned home on Monday and says she will spend some time shaking off the jet-lag.
