Parry Sound 33 still under control, but not shrinking yet

After weeks of monitoring, one of Ontario’s largest fires is still burning strong.

Parry Sound 33 is listed as under control by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry but has continued burning at over 11,300 hectares since the beginning of August. Provincial officials say firefighters from across Canada are still assisting in trying to bring down the size of the blaze by coordinating attacks on main hot spots.

Parry Sound 33 is the biggest fire listed in the Northeast Region out of 11 active fires. The blaze was first discovered on July 18th and quickly grew in size by over 6,000 hectares in the next few weeks. You can keep track of the ministry’s monitoring of Parry Sound 33 here.
