Parry Sound 33 fire not affecting town itself

The Town of Parry Sound is reminding people that it’s not being affected by a massive forest fire.

Despite its name, Parry Sound 33 is burning 75km north of the town and presents no imminent danger to Parry Sound itself.

The blaze, which has grown to 10,139 hectares in size and keeps getting bigger by the day, is now the fifth largest forest fire in Ontario. It first started two weeks ago on July 18th near Henvey Inlet. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry still lists the fire as “not under control” but no cause has been determined yet. As it grows it is moving away from Parry Sound.

The District is currently under a restricted fire zone with the fire danger rating set to extreme. That means no burning of any kind, including fireworks, is permitted.
