Parry 33 Fire Showing More Signs of Growth – Saturday Update

The Parry 33 Fire has seen partial containment in one area but overall growth in the past couple of days. The most recent report from Friday has the fire growing another 400 hectares for a total size of 7651 since July 18th.

The fire is located about an hour north of Parry Sound, running from the eastern shore of Georgian Bay and going inland. It has been a tough fire to fight with multiple resources being directed to knock down the blaze.

Shayne McCool is the Fire Information Officer for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. He says near Key Harbour ground crews have done well to get water on the fire and prevent a further spread but winds toward the northeast end of the fire have seen some growth in that area.

Water Bombers have been part of the control strategy of this fire since the beginning. McCool says that most people think the role of a water bomber is to knock down a fire, but he says it is quite the opposite.

There have been no new evacuation orders but few residents have returned. 175 residents from Henvey Inlet continue to stay at a Sudbury area hotel.
