Important year for RACH

The Rotary Club is set to take over the RACH tournament. RACH chair Joanne Higgins says after 15 years the committee is getting tired.

Over the past 15 years, the RACH fund has raised money for cancer research and cancer care. The goal is to have raised a total of a million dollars after 15 years of RACH. Higgins says they’re still about 62 thousand dollars away from their goal. Pledges can be made for participants or teams competing in the baseball tournament. Donors have the option of giving to the West Parry Sound Health Centre to the Princess Margaret Foundation, or to both.  Higgins says donations benefit equipment purchases locally.

The tournament is dedicated to Rachel and her brother Aaron’s memory. Rachel Higgins started the tournament in 2004 after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She passed away in 2005. Aaron was diagnosed with liver cancer and passed away in 2016.
