National Chief of The Assembly of First Nations looks for re-election

The National Chief of The Assembly of First Nations intends to seek re-election. Perry Bellegarde has been chief since 2014, he says there has been substantial progress over the past three and a half years. Bellegarde says the federal government has given close to 17 billion dollars to First Nations priorities including on-reserve education and child welfare, they have also committed to passing a law to implement the UN declaration on the rights of Indigenous peoples. The assembly election will be held on July 25th.
