Parry Sound being proactive with discarded needles

Discarded needles was a prominent issue in tonight’s Parry Sound council meeting. Councillor Paul Borneman says, Parry Sound resident Jeremy Newton made a deputation after his young daughter came across discarded syringes.

Councillor Paul Borneman says this is a public safety issue and it’s not something we can simply ignore even though it probably is beyond the scope of a municipal council. The town is acting in a proactive way, our public works staff have boxes in their vehicles, the recreational staff is being trained and we are putting out a drop box at the public washroom.

Mayor Jamie McGarvey says discarded needles or syringes need to be handled in an appropriate fashion, not to be infected and to be discarded in an appropriate box and taken to the Health Unit for disposal.
