Supporting women in the workforce is one of the highlights of the new Federal Budget.
Finance Minister Bill Morneau announced yesterday that $1.2 billion dollars over five years will provide up to five weeks of parental leave for new fathers, giving women more time to dedicate to their careers.
But with an $18 billion deficit, Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement says the budget may not help anyone at all.
The budget also calls for an investment of $447 million over five years to create a new Indigenous Skills and Training program as well as $1.4 billion over six years for First Nations child and family services.
Clement says he supports investing in First Nation communities as long as the government is accountable for the results.
The budget also includes a Working Income Tax Benefit that gives a single parent or couple earning $25,000 a year as much as $700.
