Parry Sound Town Council is taking action to help prevent eating disorders.
Council voted in favour of proclaiming February 1st to the 7th ‘Eating Disorder Awareness Week’ at its meeting Tuesday night.
The proclamation will promote the need for eating disorder prevention, research, treatment, and resources.
According to Alicia Pinelli of the University Health Network, eating disorders are the number one cause of death among psychiatric illnesses and the third leading cause of death among teenage girls.
EDAW hopes to dispel some of the dangerous myths surrounding eating disorders and how they can strike anyone regardless of age, race, and social-economic status.
