The Snowbirds are officially coming to Parry Sound.

Town council at a special meeting Monday night gave the go ahead to bring the acrobatic Air Force squadron to town for a performance on Wednesday, June 13th.

As part of its approval of the resolution, council put a $10,000 cap on what it will spend on the event.

That number was based staff consultations with area municipalities and sponsors for additional funding for the show.

Mayor Jamie McGarvey believes that a visit by the Snowbirds is a great opportunity for future sponsors.

Mayor McGarvey says the town’s waterfront is the perfect venue.

Council also approved the creation of an Ad-Hoc committee which will include two members of council  and a member of senior staff to oversee planning of the event.

Councillors Paul Borneman and Doug McCann will represent council on the committee with the member of staff yet to be determined.
