OPP want the waterways to be safe this Victoria Day long weekend. In 2013 23 fatalities occurred in OPP policed waterways. 20 of those individuals killed were not wearing a life jacket or PFD. Boaters are reminded to be aware of those enjoying other water activities such as swimming and fishing and to reduce speed to 10 km/h when travelling within 30 meters of a shoreline. In addition, all persons operating a power-driven boat are required by law to have a Marine Operator’s Competency Card.
