MTO and Carillion terminate contract for road maintenance in region

The Ministry of Transportation and Carillion AMC are terminating their contract for road maintenance in the region.

The MTO says the decision to end the contract was mutual and that it is what’s best for the province.

Despite agreeing to end its partnership with the MTO, Carillion has agreed to continue to provide service until September 2018.

The contract in question covered an area which includes Highway 400 from Port Severn up to Pointe au Baril and east along the Highway 11 corridor to Minden and Haliburton.

The MTO has already put out a request for proposals for a new contract to cover the region. The MTO is seeking a seven year contract for year-round maintenance services, and plan to have a new contract in place before Carillion stops its work on the roads next fall.

Details on why both sides agreed to end the contract were not disclosed.
