Blue-Green Algae warning issued for Eagle Lake

The North Bay – Parry Sound Health Unit has issued a warning about potential blue-green algae bloom in Eagle Lake.

The algae has been spotted in two locations – in Angus Bay and in Mikisew Provincial Park. The bacteria bloom has not occurred yet, but with the current unseasonably warm weather conditions the possibility exists.

All residents of Eagle Lake should watch for the bloom as the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change will not collect another sample from this lake again this year.

If residents spot the bloom it is advised  that they do not use the water for drinking, cooking, bathing, brushing teeth, or water sports. The health unit says to not eat anything from the lake especially the fish. Boiling the water does not kill the bacteria in the algae.

The health unit also says to not use water from the lake for animals or pets.  For further information about blue-green algae please visit www.myhealthunit.ca
