Man fined after avoiding land use conditions

A man has been fined for not paying his property taxes.  The Ministry of Natural Resources fined an Aylmer man who leases public land in an unsurveyed township south of the French River $3000 for violating the conditions of his land use permit.  Court heard that the man has occupied the public land on Nisbet Lake since 2001 and part of the conditions of using the land, he was supposed to pay annual property taxes to the local taxing authority.  The man felt he was not required to pay the taxes, and that it was the responsibility of the MNR to pay on his behalf.  He was found guilty and sentenced on Tuesday.
