Flooding not expected yet, but residents should keep an eye on watersheds

A flood outlook is in effect for the Parry Sound district.  The Ministry of Natural Resources is advising residents in the Parry Sound District to keep a close eye on watershed conditions and exercise caution around all bodies of water as flows and levels within rivers and streams continue to increase in the coming days.  The MNR says flooding is not expected at this time, but residents should consider taking action to secure or protect any property in flood-prone or vulnerable areas.  The water content within the existing snow pack throughout local watersheds is about 60% above normal or historical average for early April and forecasted temperatures and rainfall will continue to melt the snow pack.  It is expected that the snow pack will retain much of the forecasted rainfall which will minimize the amount of snow melt and runoff into local bodies of water.
