Today is World Autism Awareness Day. Municipality of McDougall councillor Peter Daleman will be raising the Autism flag at noon today with the help of 10-year-old Malcolm Harrington for Autism Ontario. Malcolm is a grade 5 student at Nobel Public school and was diagnosed with autism just before his ninth birthday and also has an older brother and two older cousins with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Today, 1 in 94 children in Canada are diagnosed with Autism and Autism Ontario hopes to increase opportunities and acceptance through public awareness. The Autism flag will also be raised at the Parry Sound town office at noon today to recognize April 2nd as World Autism Awareness Day.
