Seguin residents urged to write politicians about proposed OPP funding model

Seguin residents are encouraged to send letters to the government to oppose the new OPP funding model.  The OPP and provincial government are attempting to change the way municipalities pay for policing and if the proposed new billing model is implemented, Seguin’s policing costs would triple from approximately $600,000 annually to $1.8 Million.  In order to cover the cost increase, Seguin Council would have to implement an 11% tax increase or significantly cut programming and services.  Seguin Council is strongly opposed to this new model and is asking residents to take part in a letter writing campaign to send concerns to the Premier, our MPP, and the Minister responsible for the OPP.  For details on how to take part and for all of the prepared documents, visit the Township’s website: http://www.seguin.ca/en/township/OPP.asp
