It was an emotional evening at Parry Sound High School Thursday night as students and teachers involved in the Vimy 100 Trip along with Patterson family members paid tribute to a well-known local veteran, the late Jack Patterson, with the unveiling of a new memorial case in the school, named in his honour. The ceremony took place at a dinner raising funds for local High School students who will head to Europe in 2017 to mark the 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge. John Patterson, Jack’s son, expressed his family’s thanks for honouring his father, recounting how his father had enjoyed speaking with young people and said that all of these efforts to promote Remembrance, “also helped to teach the next generation to be proud of being Canadian”.
