Fine levied in fatal fire

A fatal apartment fire in Parry Sound last year has resulted in a heavy fine against the owner of the building.  The court fined the owner $34,300 for not having working smoke alarms in the multi-residential facility and for not giving tenants maintenance instructions for the alarms.  In addition, a tenant was fined $360 for disabling a smoke alarm.  Investigators looking into the May, 2015 blaze discovered that none of the smoke alarms in the building were working when the fire broke out.  One person died in the fire.
