Five people were led to safety by the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department after being stranded on the ice on Lake Joseph. It happened last night at 7:30pm after the snowmobilers became stranded near Scully Road. They had traveled into a slushy area where their machines became stuck. This caused them concern because they weren’t familiar with ice conditions in the area and there was open water nearby. In the end, nobody panicked and they waited to be rescued. It was dark so they opted to call for help. The fire department believes it was this factor that made the difference between an easy rescue and a difficult one.
