A Blue-Green Algae bloom has been found in Jack Lake

Residents and visitors to Jake Lake are being warning that a Blue-Green Algae bloom has been reported.  Yesterday, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit advised the public that a blue-green algae has been detected in the Armour Township lake.  Those using a private water system are asked to not use water from the lake for drinking, cooking or bathing and that boiling the water or using home water treatment devices will not destroy the toxins.  Everyone is also asked to avoid swimming or other water sport activities that could increase the risk of algae material and toxins contacting your skin or being swallowed and do not allow pets or livestock to swim in the water or drink it.  For more information about blue-green algae, visit www.myhealthunit.ca or give the health unit a call.
