Police are reminding boaters to leave alcohol at home before getting out on the water

Police will continue to patrol local lakes to prevent drinking and driving while boating.  Impaired boating has the same consequences as driving a car with alcohol in your system.  Orillia OPP Constable Jim Edwards says, if you’re caught drinking while operating a boat, you could face heavy penalties.

Edwards says it’s all about safety when out on the water.

He encourages everyone to leave their beer at home before going on the water.

Some offenses could reach up to 120 days in prison if, caught drinking and driving.
