Our local school board is celebrating Education Week. This week, the Near North District School Board is celebrating student achievement and teaching excellence with this year’s theme, “Achieving Excellence: Moving Forward in Math”. This week, students at Sundridge Centennial and a few other schools are applying their spatial reasoning skills as they move about their environment and experience how mathematics, language, science and the arts can help them to understand the world around them. In June, students at Britt Public School will visit Parry Sound High School to take part in culinary and carpentry workshops where they will experience the application of mathematics concepts toward an outdoor garden learning space titled “Mii Yiw” which was designed by Kindergarten to Grade 8 students. PSHS construction students will then visit Britt to help assemble the benches and flower boxes, again applying mathematics through the process and will unveiling this student-developed project at the Britt Pow Wow on June 25th.
