Police warn of counterfeit bills going around

Local police are warning businesses and residents of counterfeit bills circulating the area.  West Parry Sound OPP has been informed that counterfeit United States currencies have been passed in our neighbouring communities.  The currency involved is $100 bills that have been used to buy pre-paid credit cards at businesses in the West Nipissing area.  Anyone with information about who is using the bills is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.  For further instruction regarding counterfeit prevention, the “bank note” section of www.bankofcanada.ca offers valuable information.

Here are some tips if you suspect that a bill is counterfeit:

  • Touch the bill
  • Tilt the bill
  • Look through the bill
  • Look at the appearance of each security feature carefully
