It was a close vote during last night’s budget meeting at the Near North District School Board. The 2014-15 budget was narrowly approved with a 5 to 4 vote. Staff reductions will save the board over 300-thousand, and professional development cuts will take that total to 600-thousand in savings. The positions being cut have not been revealed, but staff will be notified within the next two weeks. A 660-thousand dollar deficit was also approved to counteract a 6 per cent decline in secondary school enrollment.
